I’ve Cured My Neuropathy

I can empathize with those of you suffering from neuropathy, a condition that affects the nerves spreading through your body. That’s because this is something that I have suffered through four different times in my life. I understand the confusion and hopelessness that can come after consulting with a physician, who will tell you that there is nothing that can be done; you just have to get used to living this way.

Most people associate neuropathy with diabetes and aging bodies. I definitely broke that mold in every way possible. My worst case of neuropathy was a result of an injury I sustained while lifting weights at the prime of my life. I was doing an exercise called the front squat, where you have one big bar in your hand. I was holding too much weight and the bar was pressing its weight into my fingertip, which caused numbness, tingling, and needle-like pains.

Normally, those kinds of sensations will go away following a work out, but this time they didn’t. It affected me every day. I was aware of it while on the computer, brushing my teeth, preparing a meal – it was always in the way.

Part of me believed the doctor – that there was no hope and no cure. That part of me lost hope. Then there was the other part of me that refused to give up looking. That was the part that had pushed me to travel the world looking for solutions to the body’s problems.

Neuropathy is a condition that simply means “nerve pain”. The term neuropathy refers to the nerve damage caused by various conditions such as diabetes, chemotherapy, infections, and vitamin deficiencies (you can see the longer list below). When a nerve is damaged, it can affect any area of the body, since it acts a highway from the brain to the rest of your body to deliver information. The affected area could include the joints, muscles, internal organs, and skin, or a combination of these areas of the body.
